After such a long flight i finally made it to bali! kadi and her balinese friend kristian picked me up from the airport and took me back to kadi and i's hotel room. it was so amazing and clean! we got in our swimsuits and jumped in the pool. after that we went to find some dinner. it is amazing how cheap everything is here. we got meals and juice for about $8 total. the meals are usually between 2-4 dollars and are amaaaazzinng. i love the food here. nasi goreng is my favorite. it is a pile of moist fried rice topped with a delicious fried egg. mmmm..
yesterday was incredible. kristian took kadi, kelly, josh and i to lovina beach. first we stopped at a temple on a lake and it costed $1 to get in. it was so cute, there were little balinese children running around with their big shining eyes and smiles that stretch from ear to ear. that is what balinese people look like. then we ate some lunch (my first nasi goreng experience) and it was raining. we were going to see a waterfall but we found out that someone drowned in it not too long ago so we headed straight for the beach. the sand was black and the water didnt seem clean. i jumped in anyways. kristian let me try this unusual fruit that you break open and has little white slices of tastiness inside. there are children trying to sell jewelry everywhere. as young as five. its hard to tell them no.
after the beach we went to some hot springs and it was very special. the water was a strange green and smelled a bit like sulfer. it really was a beautiful place and was full of locals. kristian is amazing for taking us around like he did. after that swim was a long, chilly ride home because none of us had towels.
on the ride home i had to pee more than ever. i was in pain. finally kristian pulled over and took me to a restaurant to pee. walking across traffic was pretty scary. there are no laws here. he just walked out in traffic and held his hand up in hopes that everyone would stop for us. haha it was insane. the bathroom had no toilet paper (pretty common) and no flush. but there was a bucket of water with a ladel... to flush with. haha very strange situation.
later that night i learned that a full body massage really means full body. it was an hour long and costed me $5. it felt sooo amazing. i was a bit out of my comfort zone but kadi was next to me soaking it all in and looking as comfortable as can be, and that calmed me. they also have a fish tank that you can put your feet in for 20 minutes and the fish eat of all the dead skin. i stuck my hand in for a second and it freaked me out, haha. kelly got her feet done, though.
dinner was incredible. i will miss balinese food.
tonight we take a bus to java and we will be there for a few days then off to singapore. keep us in your prayers! miss you all dearly and wish you could experience what i am experiencing. <3
